INTERVIEW WITH OUR VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Ece: Hello Mr. Şahin and our players Furkan and Mert. Thank you for having time for my interview.

Mr. Şahin and Players: You are welcome, we are happy to welcome you.

Ece: So my first question is... How long have you been a teacher, Mr Şahin?

Mr. Şahin: I have been doing this job for 18 years.

Ece: Well, do you like training the team?

Mr. Şahin: I love it, it's more enjoyable than working with the class. If you

don’t like this profession, you can’t do it.

Ece: How many years have you been training the team?

Mr. Şahin: It would have been 3 years if we had not been in the virus period, but i have been training the team for 2 years because of the pandemic.

Ece: Here is the critical question! Do you have a favorite player in the team?

Mr. Şahin: I won’t be fooled by this trick question. It changes according to each match, but all my players, including the substitutes are my favorites.

Ece: Do you have a favorite actress?

Mr. Şahin: Im not very interested in movies, i don’t follow movie actors.

Ece: Will our teacher team have another match again this year?

Mr. Şahin: Yes, if it’s done under the management of the ministry of education.

Ece: Was there any other team besides volleyball?

Mr. Şahin: I was training the handball team, but we couldn’t find players during the pandemic days. Previously, we trained players who were involved in sports

such as basketball. However our priority is volleyball.

Ece: Are there players in the team with national team potential?

Mr. Şahin: We don’t have any players with international team potential. We

don’t train players for the international team. Our goal is to raise a healty

generation.

Ece: lf you had a secret, who would you share it with?

Mr. Şahin: If two people know it, it’s not a secret anymore. But if i had a one, i would share it with my girlfriend.

Ece: Do you have a totem?

Mr.Şahin: I always wear the same clothes when we win the match.

Ece: What is your motto?

Mr. Şahin: Horatius’s phrase “carpe diem” (live in the moment, seize the day.)

Ece: Hmm, do you have any words for your students about life?

Mr. Şahin: When i went to university, one of my teacher’s words were “succes is

important in life.” If they want to achive their goals or success, they need to really want it and work hard. When we examine the lives of successful people we can see they have two things in common; their ambition and their hard work. There is nothing they can’t do if they really want to.

Ece: Now it’ our players turn!!

How long have you been doing this sport?

Furkan: I have been playing volleyball for 6 years.

Mert: I have been playing volleyball for 5 years.

Ece: What department do you want to choose at university?

Furkan: I’m planning to choose physical education department.

Mert: I want to become a police officer or choose physical education

department.

Ece: What do you think about when you hit the ball?

Furkan: I usually think about my team, but sometimes i feel as if I’m hitting my

enemy.

Mert: I think of my opponets.

Ece: What is the team’s motto?

Players: Everywhere and everytime the best is TOKAL!

Ece: What does your uniform number mean?

Furkan: Well, when I played as captain in my first season, I wore number 4.

Mert: I wear number 10 jersey because Earvin Ngapeth -the french national team player- my idol, he wears the number 10 jersey.

Ece: What is your motto?

Furkan: You can’t get success If you don’t work hard.

Mert: No pain, no gain.

Ece: How many hours do you train?

Players: We train for 3 hours at school and 3 hours at the club.

Ece: What kind of music do you listen to?

Furkan: Rap.

Mert: Slow rap.

Mr. Şahin: You listened to arabesque all the way back from the Hatay match, don’t forget to say that.

Ece: Who are the volleyball players you want to meet?

Furkan: I would like to meet Efe Mandıracı and Hande Baladın.

Mert: I would like to know Zehra Güneş and Ngapeth.

Ece: Do you read any books?

Furkan: Yes I do, I like the detective novels.

Mert: I usually read sports magazines.

Ece: Do you like dancing?

Furkan: I love it so much. I can dance anywhere.

Mert: I like traditional dances.

Ece: What are your hobbies?

Furkan: Taking photos is one of my hobbies.

Mert: Playing computer games and listening to music.

Ece: Do you have a phobia?

Furkan: No, i don’t have a phobia

Mert: I have acrophobia. I’m afraid of heights

Ece: Is there a foreign language that you want to learn?

Furkan: I want to learn French.

Mert: I want to learn Russian.

Ece: Which country do you want to go to?

Furkan: I want to go to France.

Mert: If i would learn russian, of course i would go to Russia.
